FAQ's relating to panel lawyers
How do I pay for my lawyer?
Your lawyer will talk to you about their fees and how that can be funded. The Redress Programme provides for the payment of legal fees up to a certain amount at different stages if you chose to engage with it – your lawyer can assist you in understanding what Dilworth is offering and alternatives.
Do I have to use a Panel Lawyer?
No. You can use any lawyer that you choose. We have prepared a list of lawyers who have experience in this area for Survivors who do not already have a trusted legal adviser.
Can I use a lawyer from outside my region?
Yes. The panel lawyers are from across the regions to ensure that Survivors can see a lawyer in person if they wish to, however many lawyers practise nationwide or can engage with you remotely.
What if I am based overseas?
Being based overseas should not prevent you from engaging a New Zealand based lawyer. Matters such as this can be discussed with your lawyer who is best placed to advise you on what is required to finalise an engagement. Your lawyer will speak to you about arrangements for a meeting virtually.
